Bird in a Lace Cage
Bird in a Lace Cage is the center medallion of an antique quilt in the Poos Collection featured in the book “Hidden Treasures: Quilts from 1600-1860.” This unique and beautiful c. 1850 quilt has a cutwork style applique surrounding a bird as the center piece of the quilt. Different techniques will be discussed and demonstrated for approaching the cage with ease. The bird is a golden pheasant which was likely inspired by a chintz fabric of the period. You can choose to bring your own bird fabric and make a cut-out applique bird if you prefer. The pattern for the center medallion is included in the class fee and can be completed as is, but it is part of a larger bed size quilt with the full pattern available at a special price for class attendees. Additionally, we have a fabric kit for the center medallion which includes all the necessary fabric to complete the Bird in a Lace Cage Center Medallion project with several different fabric choices available.
Background size is 36" square with a design area of 33".
